Things That Suck the Soul Right Out of You!

Are you ever called upon to do things that you know are not in your natural hardwired, God-Gifted talents?

I don’t know about you but when I am, I tend to put it off and/or try to find a quick path to circumvent the task expeditiously.

In the end, it never turns out how I intended it to. The process gets screwed up, I get frustrated, and then it takes 555 times as long.

This epiphany occurred to me recently as I tried to purchase a new phone. I had put it off long enough. My phone was five generations older than the latest. I knew that I didn’t want to sit in the store for hours waiting, so I decided to purchase the phone from the company’s website chat representative.

You see where I’m going with this story, right?

Due to this innocent act, I created 15 hours’ worth of pain spread over four days, which included the involvement of more than 10 phone company representatives. This was a huge soul-sucking, distraction from my business. All because I perceived that I had a trick to bypass the system!

What I failed to mention is the pressing need for the new phone. My former phone’s ear receiver no longer worked. I had to take all calls either by speakerphone or via my headset.

Suffice it to say that I gleaned several lessons learned from this situation.

1.            Take care of your business as soon as it occurs. Examine the things you’re procrastinating on. They may benefit you from dealing with them head-on.

2.           BIG REMINDER: There are no shortcuts.

3.           DOUBLE BIG REMINDER: Stay in your strengths-zone, whenever possible.

Next week, I’ll be covering the topic of CliftonStrengths® and release some refreshed materials around living in your strengths-zones. Until then, please contact me at dlandry@authentizity.com to discuss this and other insights into my evolution!
