Celebrating Women's History Month by Learning More about Women in History
Every month should be Women's History Month. It is to me, especially in my reading lately.
Since last year, I've been drawn to historical fiction (I accidentally called it historical drama in the recording). I have been enjoying stories of the women behind the famous men.
These unsung heros were never written about before, so their authors have to reconstruct the timelines through letters and often through the stories from the men's histories themselves.
In today's post, I feature several of my most recent finds. Specifically, I discuss Stephanie Dray's "Becoming Madam's Secretary" about Frances Perkins, the first female Secretary of State who played a crucial role in creating the modern social security system under President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. She was a woman far ahead of her time and such an inspiration so many generations later.
I know and am so grateful to stand on the shoulders of these great women and their sacrifices for our futures. Their stories offer valuable lessons about the past that can help us avoid repeating mistakes.
What about you? How are you celebrating Women’s History Month?
